How we started

Vale Royal Athletic Club came into operation in 1994 when two clubs in Cheshire, formerly Mid Cheshire Athletic Club and Winsford Athletic Club merged together. The press cuttings below show when the two clubs first merged on 1st April 1994; the iconic blue and yellow Vale Royal vest was born!

About

Vale Royal Athletic Club is in the heart of Cheshire, North West of England, and is named after the historical district of Vale Royal (an area popular with royalty in ancient times), the main towns are Northwich and Winsford. The club attracts athletes from all over the county. The club currently has over 300 members, who share a love of athletics.

Athletes from the Junior and Senior sections of the club regularly represent their County, the North of England, England and Great Britain at major athletics events.

1994

Merger of Two Clubs

The merger of two athletic clubs represented a pivotal moment in local sports. Combining their strengths, resources, and shared vision, the clubs aimed to elevate their competitive edge and expand their impact on the community. This union promised improved facilities and a more comprehensive sports program, all driven by a unified commitment to excellence and teamwork.

Onward and upward

Nine years post-merger, our athletic club were awarded the Best Off Road Club of the Year for the North West Region by UK Athletics. Athletes from the club, particularly in the junior section won a series of championship and league meetings producing excellent results in the Cheshire and North of England Cross Country Championships.

Strength to Strength

The club continues to thrive with the Senior Ladies winning their first ever medal at the National Road Relay Championships held in Sutton Park, Birmingham.

In Cross Country the Junior sections shone at the Northern Cross Country Relays in Sheffield achieving Gold in the U15 Boys and U17 Men, Bronze in the U11 Girls. There were 17 top 20 times including 9 top 10 finishers.

Continued development

Today, we are actively engaged in a diverse array of programs and initiatives tailored to cater to individuals of all ages, from young aspiring athletes to seasoned grown-ups. Our youth development programs focus on nurturing talent, instilling discipline, and promoting teamwork among the younger generation, offering them a platform to discover their potential. For adults, we provide opportunities for fitness, recreation, and competitive sports, catering to various interests and skill levels. Our holistic approach encompasses coaching, mentorship, and community engagement, ensuring that everyone, regardless of age, can find a fulfilling and enriching athletic experience within our club.
