Charlotte and Rebecca Compete
At
World Biathlon Championships

Charlotte Rebecca
Craigie and Charlotte Roach have shown her talents are not just confined to running, but swimming
too where both athletes participated in the World Biathlon Championships at the
weekend. The Championships took place in the Salford Quays in
Manchester, with teams all over the world competing, with a strong contingent
of South African nations present, as this is an event strongly advertised in
South African schools as part of the school curriculum.
Charlotte participated in the youth
A age group, where all the female athletes are aged 17 - 18 years of age.
Charlotte who is 17 thoroughly enjoyed the experience, as this was her very
first world championship event.
Charlotte who is 17 came in a very good placing of 4th after a 1500 metre run,
followed by a 200 metre swim and a further 1500 m run. Both Charlotte
and Rebecca found the water extremely cold but had plenty of training in cold
water prior to the event.
Rebecca
participated in the youth C age group, where all the female athletes are aged
13 - 14 years of age.
Rebecca
who is 14 came home in a very good placing of fifth place, where she had to undertake a 500 metre run
followed by a 100 metre swim and then a final 500 metre run which took place
on the Salford Quays.
Charlotte and Rebecca enjoyed being part of the British Pentathlon Team and
will now be back in training for cross country races and road races throughout
the winter months. This will give them some increased motivation to
train hard over the winter and get a good base of aerobic training and
appropriate conditioning.
The
event was filmed by BBC television and featured on News North West which
showed coverage on the event on a cold and windy day, yet very entertaining
for the crowds.
Club
President Harry Evans was very pleased with the two achievements and congratulated
both Charlotte and
Rebecca on their talents, where both athletes participate in other sports such
as hockey and netball as well as being dedicated to their running.
