Report by Andy Carter:

Another excellent day for Vale Royal on Saturday at the National Championships at Castle Donington - the course was certainly a tough one and a lot different to the one used for the Schools 2 years ago with the introduction of some tough hills and rough terrain. It was just as well that we had good weather in the week before the race!

We were hopeful of picking up a medal or two and the athletes did not disappoint - we expected that the U15 Boys would be in the mix for the gold but never expected to win so convincingly - from the start we had 4 athletes in the top 25 or so and, while it was nervous to watch, the boys just hung in there and brought the team home to take the first National team title ever for the club - a great feeling for the athletes, parents and coaches - so well done everyone.
In the U17 Men we were just outside the medals in 4th place but again some great performances.
The U17 Women finished 8th and U20 Women 10th.
The Senior Men came an excellent 33rd out of 123 clubs closing in teams and a massive 1730 finishing the race.

Finally the icing on the cake was that the Senior Women came away with the bronze medal which is the first time we have ever got a Senior medal in the National Cross Country.

So, overall a fabulous day for the club and we, the coaches, want to congratulate everyone who ran and gave 100% - we are beginning to have some real strength in depth and we are sure that this is not our first and last gold !!

On the individual front, everyone deserves a mention, but just to confirm the following finished in the top 100 :-
