Ellie Sweeps The Board at the
Midland Counties Indoor Open
Vale Royal AC U13 athlete Ellie Jackson from Kingsmead shone at the final indoor meeting of the season at a snowy High Performance Centre in Alexander Park, Birmingham on Sunday with a clean sweep across the four disciplines in what proved to be a hotly contested competition.
The added bonus was in the 60 metre indoor hurdles event where Ellie secured the all-time best UK performance in the U13 girls’ age group shaving 0.02 seconds off the record that had stood since 2006.
Ellie’s 60 metre hurdles PB time of 9.64 secs secured best in class on the day & cemented her place as UK number 1 athlete with a measured performance against some high quality competition gathered from across the UK.
Ellie was also best in class in the 60 metres sprint, once again another PB at 8.46 secs, along with outright winner in the 70 metres hurdles & 100 metres sprint events, competing against strong competition from bigger clubs with a long heritage of producing top class athletes.
Remarking on her performance Vale
Royal AC coach Geoff Tomlinson commented “This was a truly outstanding effort
from Ellie and caps off a tremendous first, full indoor season. Her performances
across the winter will provide an excellent launchpad for the forthcoming
outdoor season as we look to manage her progress across the seven pentathlon
disciplines in the coming months.
But the Midland Open results were exceptional and rich reward for the effort she has put in.”
The competition also rounded off a successful indoor season which managed to secure Ellie the all-time record for U13 girls 150 metres indoors back in November at Sheffield, as well as 4th in the UK for long jump and 5th for shot putt.
Not surprisingly her efforts in the
60m hurdles and 60m sprints are new club records
