New England Athletics Coaching Structure

In 2010 England Athletics introduced a new coaching structure, which was created to cater for the needs of all individuals who wished to assist athletes with their athletic preparations.

Several roles were identified and a number of qualifications proposed within each role.
Under the new structure all roles are regarded as being equally valuable in the sport and, where appropriate, the system is flexible.
This enables individuals to choose a pathway that meets the needs of the athletes they’re working with as well as their own personal aspirations.

The ‘level based’ UKA courses (Levels 1,2,3,4) stopped being delivered on 1st April 2010.
They were replaced with new courses (Leadership in Running Fitness (LiRF), Coaching Assistant, Athletics Coach, Coach in Running Fitness (CiRF) etc).

For coaches qualified under the ‘old’ Level system, qualifications will remain with them for life (as long as they adhere to the terms and conditions associated with them).
